PenMeester is a scoring program for South African freshwater bank angling competitions, with this website for the results. It takes a competition from entries and the peg draw to score cards, results, reports and live results on anglers’ phones.
Who it is for
Competition organisers, scorers and officials of clubs, provinces and the federation (SAFBAF), for anything from a club outing to the SA Championships. Anglers and supporters follow the results on this website; they don’t need the program.
How it fits together
The program runs on Windows and Mac computers at the venue. Everything is saved on the computer first, so it keeps working without internet on the day.
When there is internet, the program syncs with penmeester.co.za. Everyone who is logged in sees the same competitions and rule sets, and several computers can score the same competition: their changes are merged.
When the organiser publishes, the results and draw appear on this website with a link that can be shared on WhatsApp.
A competition, step by step
Create: choose the dates, section (e.g. Seniors, Ladies, Masters, Juniors, Disabled), division and level. The right SAFBAF rule set is chosen automatically. An existing SAFBAF Excel workbook can also be imported.
Teams: enter the teams, anglers, SAFBAF numbers, helper ratings, categories and reserves, as well as the venue, organisers and officials.
Draw: one press makes the peg draw for every day, with anglers rotating through the zones and sub-zones according to the rules. Pegs can be swapped and reserves put in for a day, and the draw can be printed.
Score cards: print blank score cards with the species rules, then type in the fish and weight per peg. Catch points, handicaps, zone points, penalties and team bonus are calculated immediately.
Results: team and individual results, medals per category and region, and the heaviest fish per species, updated after every entry.
Reports: PDFs of the draw, score cards, team results, merit list, trophy list, catch summary, team statistics and medals, to print or share.
Rules
The scoring follows the SAFBAF bank angling rules: the number of days and zones, zone rotation, sub-zones and fillers, points per fish and per kilogram, bag limits and minimum lengths per species, helper and category handicaps, zone placing and tie-breakers, team bonus and medals.
The built-in rule sets are read-only. Organisers can copy one and adjust it for their own competition or league, and share it as a file. Every competition keeps its own copy of its rules, so later changes never alter old results.
Accounts and roles
The PenMeester administrator issues the accounts. Viewers can look at competitions; scorers can create and score competitions and publish results; admins also manage users and can restore deleted competitions.
Results on this website
The Competitions page lists every published competition by year. Search on an angler’s name, team, competition or SAFBAF number. Each competition shows team results, individual results and the draw, and says whether results are after a certain day or final.
SAFBAF numbers and helper ratings are not published, and the official result is always the one declared by the organiser.
Language, updates and help
The program and the website are in Afrikaans and English, with a light and a dark look.
Install the program once from the download page; after that it checks for a newer version whenever it opens with internet and updates itself.
